Mal eine kleines Update, seit 4 Tagen in der Bretagne. Am Anreisetag gabs nix, Tag zwei, zwei kleine, Tag drei einen wunderbaren und fetten 60er bei der sichtfischerei auf die Shrimp Fliege.
Heute wieder einen richtig guten drauf gehabt der mir das 40er Vorfach kappen konnte. War nicht zu halten das Teil.
wir haben in den paar Tagen schon so viel erlebt das ich vermutlich mal nen ausführlichen Bericht dazu verfassen werde. Dauert aber noch!

I was recommended to post here after my introduction in the "Users introduce themselves" thread.

As I mentioned there, I moved to Düsseldorf from Japan this April. Back in Japan, I was a dedicated rock fisherman (Iso-fishing), hitting the Pacific coast every weekend for Seabass. I'm really happy to find a community here that shares such a similar style of fishing!

I'm now looking to gear up for the Atlantic coast. Could you recommend any physical tackle shops near Düsseldorf that carry specialized gear for sea bass and rock fishing? I'd love to see the equipment in person.

So, if anyone is curious about how specific JDM gear or tactics are used in Japan, please feel free to ask! I'm happy to share my experiences.

I'm really impressed that you know about the two different species in Japan! Since I'm particularly obsessed with Blackfin Seabass (Hirasuzuki), I'd be happy to explain the logic behind those long rods.

You've made a great point—most bites do happen close to the shore. However, we've settled on 11–12ft rods for several technical and physical reasons:

1. The "11ft" Sweet Spot: Modern carbon technology has found that 11ft is the "golden balance" between the limits of material strength and the ability to handle lures comfortably.
2. Physical Constraints: While a longer rod theoretically casts further, it creates significant constraints during the fight with a fish, as well as in terms of the angler's physical capacity and the weight of the lures.
3. Trace Course Control: In rough, storm-like conditions where your footing is limited on the rocks, it is very difficult to adjust the lure's trace course with a short rod. A longer rod is preferred because it allows for much better line management and control over the lure.
4. Trade-offs: If the rod is too long, it becomes too heavy and makes pinpoint casting difficult. Through extensive testing, most manufacturers have arrived at this 11ft range as the ideal length.
5. Regional Philosophies:
   • Kyushu-based brands (eg, Yamaga Blanks): They often make stiff 11ft rods to cut through strong winds and manage lures in short-period, choppy waves.
   • Pacific coast brands (eg, Tenryu): They tend to favor softer 12ft rods to handle the long-period swells often found on the Pacific side.

This style of fishing has evolved rapidly in Japan over the last 30–40 years. While manufacturers are still searching for the perfect solution, the industry has largely converged on this length as the most effective tool!

I've been reading your posts with great interest! I'm a Belgian seabass fanatic who loves JDM lure fishing gear and tactics. Catching a Suzuki and even more so, Hira-Suzuki. is at the very top of my bucket list. Last year, I even traveled to Cape Cod to target Striped Bass. When I'm not fishing for zander in my local canals, I'm usually out targeting seabass on the Westerschelde, since it's very close to where I live in Ghent.

If you ever need any information about fishing for seabass in the Netherlands (Westerschelde, Oosterschelde, Neeltje Jans, Rotterdam), Normandy, or the Algarve, please feel free to reach out. I've fished those areas multiple times and would be happy to help. Likewise, if you need any advice or info about the specific gear and setups we use over here, just let me know!

Regarding your question about gear, I'm afraid you won't find many physical tackle shops with a wide selection of JDM seabass gear in Germany. Your best bet in Europe would be in Normandy and Brittany, but the prices here are crazy compared to Japan! The French company Ultimate Fishing distributes brands like Tenryu, Megabass, Madness, Tackle House, and DUO, but they come at a premium.

Unlike in Japan, we tend to fish a lot with soft plastics for seabass over here, and we generally prefer slightly stiffer rods.

Die nächste Meldung von der Französischen Küste. Wind macht uns weiterhin zu schaffen aber hin und wieder klappt es dann doch. Heute habe ich mich besonders schwer getan, Werfen war irgendwie nix und ständig waren die Fische dort wo ich nicht wahr...
"In größter Not" dann nen SchwimmShrimp angebunden, das Teil begleitet mich wohl schon seit 4 Jahren hier und liefert immer wieder Fisch. So auch heute, direkt hinter ner Austerbank standen zwei Fische, 4 oder 5 mal angeworfen, keine Reaktion. Verhielten sich aber merkwürdig anders als die obligatorischen Meeräschen(bei schlechten Lichtverhältnissen kann man Äsche und Barsch schon verwechseln), also noch nen Wurf, plötzlich dreht sich der Fisch, nimmt Anlauf, das Maul öffnet sich und weg ist die Fliege. Richtig gut genährt und noch etwas größer als der davor. Was will man mehr

Sehr cool! Vorallem die Farbe des Fisches finde ich faszinierend! Viel Dunkel kenne ich auch von größeren wilden Fischen am Mittelmeer. Aber nicht in der Verbindung mit soviel Gold-Messing Tönen!!! Sehen die alle so aus oder ist das den Lichtverhältnissen geschuldet? Oder lag es doch am Spot?

Das liegt zum Großteil an den Spots die wir aussuchen. Wir sind quasi nie an der offenen Küste, sondern suchen die Fische in den Flüssen und Mündungen. Ist für die Sichtfischerei, die wir präferieren einfach "besser". Viele der Jungs und Mädels ziehen das ganze Jahr dort rum und werden deswegen dunkler. Ich hatte vor zwei oder drei Jahren mal einen der aussah wie Gold. So nen bisschen Farbe steht denen ja wirklich ganz ausgezeichnet finde ich

I think it’ll be a bit difficult for me to head straight to the rocky shores right away, so I’m planning to start by targeting seabass in the Netherlands and other accessible areas first.
Also, thanks for the heads-up on the gear situation. I guess I’ll just have to grit my teeth and deal with the high prices to get everything sorted!

Yes, the Westerschelde or Oosterschelde would be a good choice. It's about a 3-hour drive from Dusseldorf. If you're planning a weekend trip, then Neeltje Jans is a fantastic spot. It has a lot of marks that allow you to fish in various conditions and with different techniques, from topwater fishing over the oyster beds to light shore jigging in the heavy current of the barrier. You can even do some Aji fishing in the harbor at night

I had actually planned a 3-week trip to Japan with my girlfriend for September, but we ended up canceling and postponing it to 2027.

Gestern war Guiding Tag angesagt, machen wir tatsächlich jedes mal hier. Mittlerweile hat sich dadurch natürlich auch eine Art Freundschaft entwickelt. Immer wieder schön wenn man sich dann mal wieder sieht. Dabei geht es nicht mehr um die Angelei selber sondern das erkunden neuer Spots oder wann wo der Wolfsbarsch wohl auftauchen wird. Ich hatte dann das Vergnügen den ersten Fisch des Tages zu landen. Ich lief alleine einen Weg entlang, gute 2-3m Oberhalb des Wassers, immer wieder durch Lücken in der Vegetation spähend. Nach kurzer Zeit entdeckte ich einen schnell ziehenden Barsch, kurz vor mir Attackierte er einen Krebs um dann weiterzuziehen. Krebsfliege und etwas abgespulte Schnur hatte ich schon parat. Der erste Wurf war zu kurz (Bäume, Gestrüpp und Dornen überall), der zweite war etwas besser und landete gut einen Meter vom Fisch entfernt, dieser sah den Krebs sinken, schwamm schnell hin und starteten seine Attacke. Daraufhin von mir der Anhieb und hing. Bis ich da endlich mal am Wasser angekommen war, eieiei! Aber am ende alles gut! Und wieder ein schöner Fisch der die +60cm hatte. Heute ist der letzte Tag, morgen geht's heim. Für diese doch recht schwierige Fischerei, mit diesem mal schweren Wetterbedingungen, sind wir hier mehr als zufrieden.

Danke dir, jep war auch sehr dankbar, dass das geklappt hat. Musste mir zwar die Dornen aus der Wathose poppeln aber egal.
Das ist einfach ne Sache der Übung, je mehr man diese Sichtangelei betreibt desto besser klappt das mit dem Anhieb. Man lernt dann so nen bisschen das Verhalten des Fisches zu "lesen". Sprich man bekommt ne Ahnung was der da gerade Treibt und man ihm eine verpassen muss
